Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has revealed that he tried to convince Bayern Munich-bound Robert Lewandowski to join him at the Emirates Stadium in the summer.
Lewandowski's move to the Allianz Arena at the end of the season was announced earlier this month, before Gunners boss Arsene Wenger confirmed that he had previously toyed with the idea of signing the Borussia Dortmund forward.
Szczesny, who plays alongside the 25-year-old for Poland, has admitted that he tried to tempt the striker into a move to North London prior to him agreeing on a switch to the Bavarian giants.
He told Arsenal's official website: "Lewandowski has been my friend for a very long time. I tried my best [to get him to join Arsenal]."
Arsenal sit top of the Premier League table after securing a 2-0 win over Fulham on Saturday.
