Aston Villa condemn the actions of supporters who have "let both themselves and their club down" following the pitch invasion in the FA Cup win over rivals West Brom.

The Football Association will launch a full investigation into the scenes which marred Aston Villa's FA Cup quarter-final clash against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday evening.

Goals from Fabian Delph and Scott Sinclair guided the Villans to a 2-0 victory against their local rivals, although the behaviour of both sets of supporters at Villa Park somewhat overshadowed the game itself.

Sinclair's goal late on sparked a pitch invasion at the West Midlands venue. The field of play was soon cleared, yet it was a similar case a few minutes later at full time when spectators again climbed over the hoardings.

West Brom supporters, who were located high up in the North Stand, are said to have ripped out seats and hurled them at opposition fans below.

Delph claimed after the game that he was bitten during the pitch invasion, which he went on to describe as being "very, very scary", while Baggies boss Tony Pulis slammed the "disgraceful" scenes.

Villa later responded by releasing a statement condemning the behaviour of those involved, which read: "The club does not condone supporters invading the field of play under any circumstances.

"We are very disappointed that what should have been a very memorable and proud moment for our fans was marred by the actions of those who could not control themselves. They have let both themselves and their club down."

The FA will review all of the footage available on Monday, working alongside West Midlands Police to get to the bottom of the matter. A range of sanctions are available, with a heavy fine likely to be the punishment handed down.
