League Two side Chesterfield shocked Premier League outfit Aston Villa with a comprehensive 3-1 victory at the Proact Stadium in their pre-season clash this evening.
Chesterfield went close within the opening five minutes as Brad Guzan was forced to make a low save from Gary Roberts's effort.
The home side took the lead just 60 seconds later when Tendayi Darikwa burst down the right and nudged the ball beyond the despairing Guzan from a tight angle.
Graham Burke nearly levelled the tie when he collected Aleksandar Tonev's pass, but his rasping shot crashed against the bar.
Chesterfield doubled their lead just before half time when Sam Hird stole in at the back post to convert Roberts's corner.
Paul Lambert made six changes at the break and within six minutes of the restart one of his replacements had pulled a goal back as Jack Grealish fired home from Charles N'Zogbia's cross.
However, as Aston Villa poured forward in search of a late equaliser the home side rounded off the win with a quick break finished by Sam Morsy.
