Aston Villa have reportedly tabled a Championship-record transfer bid of £20m for Hull City striker Abel Hernandez.
The 26-year-old Uruguayan moved to the KCOM Stadium from Palermo two seasons ago and has notched up 25 goals in 67 appearances in a Tigers shirt.
According to The Sun, new Villa owner Dr Tony Xia has made an upfront offer of £14m for Hernandez, with a further £3m for club achievements such as promotion and £3m dependent on goals and appearances.
Writing on Twitter, Xia confirmed that the club had been "trying whole summer" to get a deal done for Hernandez and advised fans to expect an announcement on Monday.
Villa, who have already made seven signings this summer so far, are targeting a striker and an attacking midfielder before the window closes on Wednesday as they look to bounce back to the Premier League at the first opportunity.
