Juventus are in desperate need of a goal to guarantee their place in the last 16 of the Champions League as they head into half time tied at 0-0 with Atletico Madrid.
Both sides started the match frenetically, but it was the Spaniards who carved out the first clear-cut chance, Koke testing Gianluigi Buffon with a low strike from inside the box in the eighth minute.
Juve applied some pressure of their own one minute later as Paul Pogba swung in a dangerous ball to the near post, Miguel Moya in the Atletico goal doing just enough to beat the cross clear under pressure from Fernando Llorente.
The first period was evenly matched, but Group A leaders Atletico would have taken a slender lead into the break had Buffon not been on hand to keep out a strike by Mario Suarez on the stroke of half time.
With Olympiacos leading Malmo 1-0 in Group A's other fixture, a draw will suit the Italians but a defeat could propel them into the Europa League.
