Diego Costa is to serve a one-match ban after his appeal against the red card shown to him in Atletico Madrid's 2-0 win over Getafe was rejected by the Royal Spanish Football Federation.
The Spain international was in the thick of it during his first La Liga match since officially rejoining Atleti, finding the net 68 minutes in before being sent off immediately after.
Costa was punished for celebrating with Los Rojiblancos supporters, earning a second yellow card in the process which Atletico unsuccessfully attempted to have overturned.
A statement from the RFEF read: "The named player approached the spectators and, furthermore, embraced several fans, which the referee determined could produce a security problem, which is an infraction of the rules."
Former Chelsea striker Costa will miss his side's next outing and must also pay a €600 (£531) fine.
