Atletico Madrid have moved within two points of Real Madrid after beating Real Sociedad 2-0 at the Vicente Calderon.
The hosts made the ideal start to the match by taking the lead in the second minute when Mikel Gonzalez could only head into his own net as he attempted to clear Koke's corner.
It was 2-0 in 10 minutes as Antoine Griezmann helped himself to an easy goal from close range against his former club after Geronimo Rulli had pushed Koke's low effort into the Frenchman's path.
Despite making a poor start to the match, Sociedad came close to reducing the deficit when Chori Castro's powerful strike was kept out by Jan Oblak.
Atletico continued to dominate the exchanges, and the influential Koke almost extended the lead further before the break when his cross beat Rulli before hitting the crossbar.
Griezmann was proving to be a constant threat to his old employers, and some clever work from the forward created a chance for Mario Suarez, who sent the ball over from a promising position in the box.
A Sociedad comeback never looked likely, and only some fine goalkeeping from Rulli prevented Raul Jimenez from turning in Jesus Gamez's cross.
Atletico were pushed back in the closing stages as Sociedad desperately looked for a way back into the match, but Oblak made a rare save from Esteban Granero's free kick as Diego Simeone's side held on for a comfortable win.
