Augsburg picked up their first win of the season as they beat winless Hannover 2-0 at the WWK Arena this evening.
The home side started brightly as Alexander Esswein forced Ron-Robert Zieler into making a save before Dominik Kohr's right-footed strike narrowly missed the target.
Hannover could have taken the lead after the 20-minute mark but Leon Andreasen's shot was saved by keeper Marwin Hitz.
However, it was the hosts who broke the deadlock when Esswein found the bottom-left corner of the goal in the 29th minute.
Augsburg were awarded a penalty just two minutes later when Marcelo brought down Tobias Werner in the box. Paul Verhaegh then stepped up to convert the spot kick and double his side's advantage.
Tim Matavz could have added a third after the break but both his efforts in the space of a minute were saved by Zieler.
Despite being two goals down, Hannover struggled to create chances and they could have easily conceded more before full time when Koo Ja-Cheol header late on was saved by Zieler.
