Sports Mole

Looking to pick up a fourth win on the bounce and extend their lead at the top of the Primera Division table, Argentinos Juniors visit the Estadio Florencio Sola to face Banfield on Monday.

El Taladro, meanwhile, will head into the game seeking to get one over the visitors, having failed to win any of the last six meetings between the sides since 2015.

Match preview

Banfield continue to struggle for form in the Primera Division as they suffered a slender 1-0 defeat at the hands of Talleres when the sides met last Thursday.

In an action-packed contest at the Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes, Colombian midfielder Diego Valoyes netted the only goal of the game in the 17th minute to hand the hosts all three points.

Banfield have now failed to taste victory in any of their last three league outings, picking up one point from a possible nine since crushing to a 3-0 win away to Boca Juniors on July 2.

With 12 points from nine games, Claudio Vivas's side are currently 14th in the Argentine Primera Division standings, but could rise as high as eighth place with all three points on Monday.

However, next up is the stern challenge of taking on an opposing side who they have failed to defeat in their last six attempts, managing one draw and losing five since claiming a 1-0 win back in 2015.

Elsewhere, Argentinos Juniors maintained their impressive run of results last time out when they claimed a comfortable 2-0 victory over Boca Juniors at the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Despite seeing less than 40% of the ball possession and being on the back foot for most of the game, first-half strikes from Gabriel Carabajal and Gaston Veron helped the hosts secure all three points.

Gabriel Milito's men have now won each of their last four league outings, scoring nine goals and conceding three since a 1-1 draw against Arsenal Sarandi on June 27.

Argentinos Juniors have picked up six wins, one draw and lost two of their nine games so far to collect 19 points and sit top of the league standings, only above second-placed Athletico Tacuman on goal difference.

Team News

Banfield will take to the pitch without the services of Mauricio Cuero, who has been out of action since last November through an ACL injury.

Argentine defender Alexis Maldonado is also out of contention for El Taladro after picking up a knee injury in March's game against Defensa Justicia.

As for Argentinos Juniors, Milito will be unable to call upon Paraguayan forward Gabriel Avalos, who was forced off with a muscle problem against Newell's Old Boys on June 21.

He is joined on the club's injury by former 24-year-old defender Kevin Mac Allister, who is set to sit out his 10th consecutive game after coming off injured in June's clash against Aldosivi.

Carabajal turned in a brilliant performance against Boca Juniors last time out and the 30-year-old midfielder should retain his place in the starting side, teaming up with Veron and Nicolas Reniero in attack.

Banfield possible starting lineup:
Cambeses; Coronel, Gissi, Maciel, Eseiza; Domingo, Gonzalez,Cabrera; Cuadra, Enrique, Urzi

Argentinos Juniors possible starting lineup:
Lanzillota; Torren, Villalba, Minissale; Cabrera, Moyano, Vera, Carabajal, Sanchez; Veron, Reniero

We say: Banfield 1-3 Argentinos Juniors

High-flying Argentinos Juniors will fancy their chances against a floundering Banfield side who are winless in three straight league games. Milito's men are also unbeaten in six straight games against the hosts and we are backing them to extend their dominance in this fixture by claiming all three points once again.
