Barcelona team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Royal Antwerp

Sports Mole rounds up Barcelona's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Wednesday's Champions League Group H clash against Royal Antwerp.

Needing just one point to confirm a first-placed finish in Champions League Group H, Barcelona head to Belgium to meet Royal Antwerp on Wednesday evening.

Xavi's side have taken 12 points from their opening five group matches and assured themselves of a spot in the last 16 by getting the better of Porto 2-1 in the penultimate round of fixtures.

Barcelona will enter the knockout draw as group winners if they avoid defeat on Wednesday, but their La Liga title hopes suffered another blow at the weekend, as high-flying Girona stunned the Blaugrana in a 4-2 win.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Barcelona's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their clash with already-eliminated Antwerp, who have failed to earn a single point in Group H thus far.

Frenkie de Jong

Status: Out
Type of injury: Illness
Possible return date: December 16 (vs. Valencia)

Frenkie de Jong has not made the journey to Antwerp due to illness, but he will be expected to make a quick return for the weekend's La Liga clash with Valencia.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen

Status: Out
Type of injury: Back
Possible return date: Unknown

Earlier this month, first-choice goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen underwent surgery to correct a back problem, and the Germany international is expected to be rehabilitating for a couple of months ahead of a possible return in February.

Gavi

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Former Kopa Trophy winner Gavi sustained an excruciating ACL injury while playing for Spain last month, and the 19-year-old is expected to miss the rest of the campaign and potentially Euro 2024 to boot.

Marcos Alonso

Status: Out
Type of injury: Back
Possible return date: Unknown

Marcos Alonso is the second Barcelona player currently down with a back injury, which prevented him from turning out against Girona, and there is currently no indication when the left-back might be available again.

Inigo Martinez

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: Unknown

Inigo Martinez sustained a hamstring problem while warming up for Barcelona's clash with Atletico Madrid on December 3, and the centre-back is only believed to have a slim chance of playing again this calendar year.

BARCELONA'S SUSPENSION LIST

Barcelona have no players banned for this match, but Joao Felix and Ronald Araujo will miss the first leg of the Blaugrana's last-16 tie if they are cautioned here.
