Barnet have established a 2-0 half-time advantage at Southport in the Conference Premier thanks to goals from Lee Cook and John Akinde.
The visitors began the match on the front foot and almost opened the scoring in the fifth minute, but Charlie MacDonald's flick to the back post avoided everyone and went out for a goal kick.
Southport were not offering much of an attacking threat until they almost took a surprise lead shortly before the midway point of the half, when Barnet defender Andy Yiadom glanced the ball onto the top of his own net.
However, it did not take long for Barnet to reestablish their control of the game and, after 25 minutes, they took the lead when Cook netted his sixth of the season.
He lobbed Daniel Lloyd-Weston after creating some space for himself on the edge of the box.
The visitors soon set about extending their lead and, 14 minutes after their opener, they took full command of the match when Akinde curled the ball into the corner from the edge of the penalty area.
