Good afternoon! Thank you very much for joining
Sports Mole for today's football action!
It promises to be a big day in the FA Cup as teams do battle for a place in the quarter-finals, while in the Championship there could be major implications at both ends of the table this afternoon. FULL TIME: Sheffield Wednesday 0-0 Swansea CityThe first FA Cup contest of the day has ended goalless and Championship side Sheffield Wednesday will be going to the Liberty Stadium for a replay! You can read a full match report of that contest by clicking here.
Hopefully we will see more goals and action from around the country in the 3pm kickoffs, and if English football fails to delivery - which it rarely does - then we have four Bundesliga matches just about to kick off at 2.30pm. Bayern Munich are one of those as they look to take another step towards what looks to be an inevitable title triumph yet again.
Right, let's turn our attention to the FA Cup fifth round, and while Swansea have been held to a draw in the early kickoff, so far the Premier League teams have enjoyed a good time of it, with both Leicester and Chelsea booking their place in the quarter-finals last night.
At least one Premier League team will crash out this afternoon, though, with West Brom and Southampton facing off in a match between two sides struggling at the wrong end of the table. Brighton are also in action and are looking to avoid an upset against Coventry.
WEST BROM VS. SOUTHAMPTONThe Baggies come into this match off the back of a tumultuous week which has seen their chairman and chief executive sacked and four senior players face disciplinary proceedings after breaking a curfew during a recent trip to Spain.
Evans and Barry - who were both involved in that incident - do start today, though, and for Alan Pardew it could be a good chance to take the negative attention away from the club. His own job is far from safe with the Baggies sitting bottom of the table and now seven points from safety, although they did beat Liverpool and Anfield in the last round.
WEST BROM VS. SOUTHAMPTONThe Saints also sit in the Premier League's relegation zone, but they are only one point from safety and have only lost one of their last seven games across all competitions - although that did come in rather weak fashion last weekend against Liverpool.
Mauricio Pellegrino is another manager whose job is under intense scrutiny, but leading Southampton a first quarter-final appearance in the FA Cup since 2004-05 could be enough to give him a bit more time to turn things around.
BRIGHTON VS. COVENTRYThe biggest story of the day could come from the Amex Stadium as Coventry attempt to pull off another upset, which would create a slice of FA Cup history in the process.
The Sky Blues have already beaten Stoke in this season's competition, and victory this afternoon would see them become the first fourth-tier side in the competition's long and illustrious history to ever knock two top-flight teams out in the same season.
However, the League Two playoff hopefuls have lost all three games so far in February and have only one once on the road this calendar year.
GOAL! Wolfsburg 1-0 Bayern Munich
BRIGHTON VS. COVENTRYBrighton will certainly go into this match as heavy favourites, then, particularly as they have experienced an upturn in form of late, going unbeaten in their last four games across all competitions and only losing twice since Boxing Day.
The Seagulls are looking to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup for the first time in 32 years, and their home record this season has been very impressive. They have only lost two of their last 14 outings here at the Amex across all competitions, and the only visiting teams to win here this season have been Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea.
The standout match from the Championship this afternoon is
Fulham against
Aston Villa, with the two playoff hopefuls facing off at Cravan Cottage.
Fulham currently sit fifth in the table and seven points off the automatic promotion spots, whereas Villa are in that coveted second place and are looking to keep clear of Derby and Cardiff, who are currently just a point behind.
This match also pits two in-form teams against each other, with Fulham having won seven and lost none of their last nine league games while also stringing together a six-match winning streak at home. Villa, meanwhile, have won all seven of their games since Boxing Day including three in a row away from home without conceding.
Cardiff will be hoping to pounce on any slip-up from Villa as they look to bridge the one-point gap to the automatic places when they host
Middlesbrough this afternoon.
The Bluebirds are unbeaten in their last five league games - which is a timely return to form following a four-match losing streak - but they have not won back-to-back league games since the beginning of December. Middlesbrough's on form has been very mixed of late, but they need to find some consistency if they are to stand any chance of closing the four-point gap to the playoffs.
Another team chasing the top six is
Preston North End, who currently sit one place and three points outside the playoff places following a run of only one defeat in their last 15 games.
Preston face the difficult challenge of leaders Wolves today, though, with the champions-elect having returned to form with a three-game winning streak following a minor blip of a draw followed by a defeat. Wolves boast the best away record in the division, whereas hosts Preston have actually been better on the road than they have in front of their own fans.
It could be a pivotal daty in the race for automatic promotion and playoffs, then, but it could also prove to be important at the other end of the table with plenty of the relegation-threatened clubs in action.
Bottom-of-the-table Burton Albion host Nottingham Forest looking to improve their torrid home form which has seen them incredibly lose 10 and win none of their last 11 Championship outings at the Pirelli Stadium, picking up just one point from a possible 33 in that time since September.
Burton are now four points from safety and take on a Forest side who have a seven-point cushion to the relegation zone despite winning just one of their last 10 league games. Indeed, they have failed to even score in seven of their last eight Championship outings.
Burton are only one point behind 23rd-placed
Sunderland, who are also at home this afternoon as they welcome 10th-placed
Brentford to the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland are three points from safety having won just one of their six league outings so far in 2018, although the most recent of those did see them come from three goals down in the final 20 minutes to earn a draw at Bristol City last weekend.
Only Burton have picked up fewer home points than Sunderland this season, although both of the Black Cats' Stadium of Light wins this season have come in their last five home games. Brentford for their part are eight points off the playoffs but winless in their last three.
GOAL! Freiburg 1-0 Werder Bremen
Birmingham now sit the right side of the dotted line following a run of only one defeat in six prior to last weekend's derby defeat at the hands of
Aston Villa. The Blues have not lost back-to-back league games since December 16 to climb two points clear of danger, although they are now looking for successive home wins for the first time since October.
Millwall are the visitors to St Andrew's this afternoon, with the Lions stuck around mid-table and unbeaten in their last five league games. Millwall had been winless in 21 consecutive away Championship games stretching back to February 2015 before their recent upturn in form, which has now seen them win two in a row.
Bolton are another team still in danger but currently the right side of the dotted line, with two points also separating them from the relegation zone going into today's game.
The Trotters have only won one of their last five league games and have a truly dreadful away record going into their trip to Loftus Road, having won just one of their last 40 Championship outings on their travels - a run which stretches back to April 2015.
QPR, meanwhile, have lost three of their last four league games but are relatively safe sitting eight points clear of the bottom three and are generally a lot better in front of their own fans.
GOAL! Koln 1-0 Hannover
KICKOFF! Matches are getting underway up and down the country!
KICKOFF DELAYED! One game which will not be getting underway just yet is the FA Cup clash between Brighton and Coventry - that has been delayed until 3.15pm.
The earliest goals are flying in in the lower reaches of the Scottish football pyramid, where St Mirren have taken the lead against Championship rivals Livingston and Airdrie have broken the deadlock against Queen's Park in League One.
GOAL! Southend 1-0 Portsmouth
GOAL! Koln 1-1 Hannover
The first goal from the English leagues has come through Southend, who have broken the deadlock against League One playoff-chasers Portsmouth courtesy of a Matt Clarke own goal.
Scotland really is the place for early goals today! Forfar now lead Stranraer 2-0, Livingston have levelled things up against St Mirren and Elgin City have broken the deadlock against Montrose!
GOAL! MK Dons 0-1 Charlton
GOAL! Hamburg 0-1 Bayer Leverkusen
An important goal at both ends of the League One table as playoff-chasing Charlton take the lead against MK Dons, who go into the day six points from safety.
Meanwhile in Germany, Hamburg's own relegation fight has taken another blow as they have fallen behind against Champions League hopefuls Leverkusen.
GOAL! West Brom 0-1 Southampton
GOAL! Southend 2-0 Portsmouth
GOAL! Scunthorpe 0-1 Northampton
Southampton take the lead in the big FA Cup game of the 3pm kickoffs, and it is a first Saints goal for defender Wesley Hoedt. As has so often been the case in recent weeks it is James Ward-Prowse who gets the assist, swinging a corner into the box which was volleyed home by Hoedt.
GOAL! Doncaster 1-0 Fleetwood
GOAL! Sunderland 0-1 Brentford
Bad news for relegation-threatened Sunderland as they have fallen behind at home to Brentford in their Championship clash. Kamohelo Mokotjo got the goal for the Bees, who have won just twice in their last seven away league games.
KICKOFF! We are underway in the second La Liga game of the day, with leaders Barcelona taking on Eibar. In-depth live coverage of that match
can be found here.
KICKOFF! ...and we are also finally underway in the delayed FA Cup contest between Brighton and Coventry. Can the League Two side pull off an almighty upset at the Amex Stadium?
HALF TIME! Meanwhile, it is half time in all of the Bundesliga's 2.30pm kickoffs now, with the headline as it stands being that Bayern Munich are losing to relegation-threatened Wolfsburg, who have had just one shot so far.
It has been quite the opening quarter between Livingston and St Mirren in the Scottish Championship. St Mirren took the lead after only two minutes, but Livingston have hit back and now lead 3-1 after only 22 minutes.
OFF THE BAR! Almost a dream start to his Brighton career for record signing Jurgen Locadia, who has just hit the bar after only five minutes of his debut against Coventry!
GOAL! Doncaster 2-0 Fleetwood
Only three points separate them in League One, but there are already two goals between Doncaster and Fleetwood today. Fleetwood are only two points clear of the relegation zone too, so that could be a damaging defeat for them if they are unable to turn it around.
GOAL! Udinese 0-1 Roma
Big goal in Serie A as Roma take the lead against Udinese through Cengiz Under, which would be enough to take them up to third place as things stand - at least until Inter Milan take on Genoa later today.
GOAL! Sunderland 0-2 Brentford
GOAL! Eibar 0-1 Barcelona (Luis Suarez) GOAL! Scunthorpe 1-1 Northampton
GOAL! Brighton 1-0 Coventry
RED CARD! Eric Lichaj (Nottingham Forest)
GOAL! Cardiff 1-0 Middlesbrough
He may have been denied by the crossbar earlier, but Jurgen Locadia does have his debut goal for the Seagulls to give them the lead against Coventry in their FA Cup clash, finishing off from close range.
Elsewhere in that flurry of activity Neal Maupay has doubled Brentford's lead against Sunderland with a cheeky back-heel goal, Luis Suarez has given Barcelona the lead and Cardiff have broken the deadlock against Middlesbrough through Sean Morrison's header just past the half-hour mark.
GOAL! Motherwell 0-1 Kilmarnock
GOAL! Southend 2-1 Portsmouth
GOAL! Hamburg 0-2 Bayer Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen will be moving from fifth place all the way up to second in the Bundesliga as things stand! They have doubled their lead over Hamburg, who are on course to remain six points from safety.
Could he be the answer to Brighton's troubles in front of goal this season?
It certainly isn't the most glamorous game of the day, but Forfar Athletic have raced into a 4-0 lead over Stranraer in Scottish League One, scoring all of their goals inside the opening half an hour. As if that wasn't enough, Forfar began the day bottom of the table, although that flurry of goals could be enough to lift them into a position of safety.
Including two already at home to Brentford today. Things are looking increasingly bleak for the Black Cats...
Things go from had to worse for Bayern Munich, who have just missed a penalty which would have brought them level with Wolfsburg. The runaway Bundesliga leaders can afford a slip-up or two along the way, but Jupp Heynckes may be regretting making eight changes to his side for this match.
GOAL! Shrewsbury 0-1 Rotherham
A big goal at the top of League One sees fourth-placed Rotherham take the lead against Shrewsbury, who began the day top of the table but are only one point clear of third-placed Blackburn in a fascinating race for automatic promotion.
GOAL! Udinese 0-2 Roma
GOAL! Brighton 2-0 Coventry
Roma wrap an important three points up against Udinese as Diego Perotti scores a second in the first minute of stoppage time, and Brighton also look well on course for victory having doubled their advantage over League Two side Coventry through Connor Goldson.
FULL TIME: Udinese 0-2 Roma
We are now into half time of the vast majority of our featured matches this afternoon, with the main exception being Brighton's delayed kickoff against Coventry.
Roma have indeed seen out their win over Udinese, meanwhile, which lifts them up to third in the Serie A table until at least this evening, when Inter Milan take on Genoa.
GOAL! Wolfsburg 1-1 Bayern Munich
Bayern may well extend their winning run to 13 matches after all, having levelled things up against Wolfsburg through Sandro Wagner. Around 25 minutes to go in that one as Wolfsburg look to hang on for a point now.
GOAL! Hamburg 1-2 Bayer Leverkusen
A glimmer of hope for Hamburg! Andre Hahn has halved the deficit against Leverkusen with 20 minutes remaining!
A cracking stat regarding Arjen Robben's saved penalty in the Bayern Munich game earlier - a very rare occurrence in the Bundesliga...
KICKOFF! We are underway in Paris, where Ligue 1 leaders PSG are looking to bounce back from their midweek Champions League defeat at home to Strasbourg.
HALF TIME! As the half-time whistle blows for Brighton's match against Coventry, a host of other games are getting back underway for the second half.
GOAL! Hibernian 1-0 Aberdeen
Hibernian take the lead against second-placed Aberdeen to make it a perfect start to the second half. That would see Hibs move to within two points of third-placed Rangers, while also giving Celtic the chance to move 15 points clear tomorrow.
GOAL! PSG 0-1 Strasbourg
Well, well, well - who saw this coming?! PSG concede the lead early on against Strasbourg at the Parc des Princes, with Jean-Eudes Aholou getting the goal to put the visitors in front. Could this be the start of a blip for the runaway league leaders?
GOAL! Preston 1-0 Wolves
GOAL! PSG 1-1 Strasbourg
RED CARD! Mark Little (Bolton)
GOAL! West Brom 0-2 Southampton
GOAL! Fulham 1-0 Aston Villa
Southampton have doubled their lead against West Brom and look destined now for the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, a stage they have not graced since 2004-05. Dusan Tadic got the goal to double their advantage, further piling the pressure on Alan Pardew's shoulders in the process.
There has also been a big goal in the Championship, where the prodigious Ryan Sessegnon has done it again to give Fulham the lead against Aston Villa.
GOAL! Doncaster 3-0 Fleetwood
GOAL! West Brom 1-2 Southampton
GOAL! Scunthorpe 1-2 Northampton
What a response from the Baggies! West Brom have immediately restored the deficit to one goal as Salomon Rondon volleys Krychowiak's lofted through-ball home from the edge of the area - a goal of real quality.
PSG also responded very quickly to going behind against Strasbourg and are now level courtesy of a Draxler strike, while Preston have taken the lead against Championship leaders Wolves through Alan Browne's header.
RED CARD! John Welsh (Preston)
GOAL! Hibernian 2-0 Aberdeen
GOAL! MK Dons 0-2 Charlton
GOAL! MK Dons 1-2 Charlton
GOAL! Preston 1-1 Wolves
GOAL! Koln 2-1 Hannover
GOAL! Wolfsburg 1-2 Bayern Munich
GOAL! PSG 2-1 Strasbourg
Preston were jubilant not so long ago, but it has been a bad few minutes for them! First Welsh is sent off for a second bookable offence, and then just one minute later Wolves level things up through Helder Costa!

Freiburg and Leverkusen have also picked up wins in the Bundesliga today, while Koln and Hannover share the spoils.
GOAL! QPR 1-0 Bolton
QPR have found the breakthrough against the 10 men of
Bolton Wanderers, taking the lead with just under 20 minutes remaining courtesy of Joel Lynch's close-range header.
Fulham still lead promotion rivals Aston Villa because of this man's goal...
GOAL! Fulham 2-0 Aston Villa
Fulham double their lead over Aston Villa, who will be dropping out of the automatic promotion places as things stand! Ayite has got the second goal, and in some style too as he took advantage of the goalkeeper being out of position to score from all of 45 yards!
GOAL! Brighton 3-0 Coventry
Leonardo Ulloa is back in Brighton colours, and he is back scoring goals too! The striker makes it 3-0 to the Premier League outfit, who have surely now done enough to book a place in the quarter-finals for the first time in 32 years.
GOAL! Scunthorpe 2-2 Northampton
RED CARD! Fabian Orellana (Eibar)
GOAL! Birmingham 0-1 Millwall
Fabian Orellana has picked up two yellow cards in the space of eight minutes to make things even more difficult for Eibar, who still trail Barcelona by a goal to nil.
Elsewhere, meanwhile, Millwall are on course to make it three away Championship wins in a row for the first time since April 2014 after Fred Onyedinma came off the bench to give them the lead against struggling Birmingham at St Andrew's.

BRIGHTON AND SOUTHAMPTON QUALIFY FOR THE QUARTER-FINALS OF THE FA CUP!
PSG are our only featured team still going, and they look on course for a return to winning ways as they lead Strasbourg 3-1, so let's have a quick recap of the scores from a busy day of action in England...
CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTSBirmingham 0-1 Millwall
Burton 0-0 Northampton
Cardiff 1-0 Middlesbrough
Fulham 2-0 Aston Villa
Preston 1-1 Aston Villa
QPR 2-0 Bolton
Sunderland 0-2 Brentford
What do those results mean for the Championship table, then?
Well, the headline news is that Fulham's impressive 2-0 win over fellow in-form side Aston Villa sends Villa down to third and out of the automatic promotion places, where they are replaced by Cardiff courtesy of the Bluebirds' win over Middlesbrough.
Wolves see their lead cut by a point having been held to a draw by Preston, who are now only two points off the playoff places in the second tier. Fulham, meanwhile, remain in fifth place.
At the bottom of the table,
Burton Albion's dreadful home form continues, although their goalless draw with
Nottingham Forest gives them just their second point from the last 36 on offer at home in the Championship and sees them move to within three points of safety.
Burton move level with Sunderland, who lost at home to Brentford this afternoon, while Bolton and Birmingham remain only two points clear of the relegation zone following defeats for both of them. Bolton do, however, move above Birmingham despite their loss by virtue of their superior goal difference.
LEAGUE ONE RESULTSAFC Wimbledon 3-1 Bristol Rovers
Doncaster 3-0 Fleetwood
Gillingham 0-0 Walsall
MK Dons 1-2 Charlton
Oxford United 0-1 Plymouth
Scunthorpe 2-2 Northampton
Shrewsbury 0-1 Rotherham
Southend 3-1 Portsmouth
Wigan Athletic are in FA Cup action this weekend, but win or lose against the might of Manchester City they will have the chance to move top of League One when they return to league duties courtesy of Shrewsbury's defeat to Rotherham - themselves promotion hopefuls - today.
Scunthorpe also fought back to earn a point against Northampton in their playoff bid, with the Cobblers climbing one point clear of the relegation zone and above Fleetwood, who fell to a 3-0 defeat to Doncaster. AFC Wimbledon, meanwhile, climb out of the bottom three courtesy of their late winner against Bristol Rovers.
LEAGUE TWO RESULTSBarnet 1-1 Accrington
Cambridge United 3-1 Grimsby
Carlisle 2-0 Chesterfield
Cheltenham 0-2 Wycombe
Crawley 3-1 Lincoln
Crewe 1-0 Colchester
Exeter 0-1 Mansfield
Morecambe 1-1 Forest Green
Newport 0-0 Notts County
Stevenage 4-1 Yeovil
Swindon 3-2 Port Vale
GOAL! PSG 3-2 Strasbourg
Now then! Things might not yet be over at the Parc des Princes, where PSG have been pegged back against by Strasbourg. The capital outfit still lead following three goals in the space of 12 minutes in the first half, but Stephane Bahoken has made it 3-2 and PSG are certainly not having things all the own way here.
Back to the less-glamorous League Two now, where there were some big results at both ends of the table.
At the top, Wycombe moved into second place and within five points of leaders Luton with victory at Cheltenham, with Accrington losing ground in the title race as they were held by bottom-of-the-table Barnet. Notts County were the only other team in the top six not to win, but Lincoln and Exeter both fell to costly defeats which enabled ninth-placed Crawley to move to within two points of the playoffs.
GOAL! PSG 4-2 Strasbourg (Edinson Cavani)
Cavani becomes the fourth different PSG name on the scoresheet - and the sixth different scorer altogether - by latching on to Pastore's pass and chipping his finish over the keeper to restore PSG's two-goal advantage in Paris.
Back to League Two again, and Barnet's draw at home to Accrington sees them close the gap on Chesterfield to one point, although they remain bottom and six points from safety.
Morecambe and Forest Green - the two teams directly above the relegation zone - played out a 1-1 draw to edge slightly further away, while Crewe picked up a valuable win over Colchester to climb up to 20th.
The late FA Cup kickoff is underway, and Manchester United have wasted no time in taking the lead against Huddersfield through Romelu Lukaku, who powers his finish past Lossl having latched on to a through-ball from Mata.
GOAL! PSG 5-2 Strasbourg (Edinson Cavani)
Cavani has his second in the space of six minutes and PSG have a fifth as they surely put the game to bed against Strasbourg once and for all. Neymar was the provider this time, but it is all about the finish as Cavani lifts the ball over the keeper. Around 10 minutes remaining at the Parc des Princes.
Elsewhere in Europe, Barcelona's hard-fought win over 10-man Eibar has seen them equal their own club record unbeaten run, set during the Pep Guardiola era...
Here is that Manchester United goal which has given them a perfect start to the match against Huddersfield...
Bayern Munich's late, late victory over Wolfsburg this afternoon not only saw them extend their winning run to 13 matches, but also saw them move a whopping 21 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table.
Bayer Leverkusen are now their closest challengers following a 2-1 win over Hamburg, which sees them climb from fifth up to second. However, only two points separate second from sixth in a very tight race for a Champions League place.
FULL TIME: Paris Saint-Germain 5-2 Strasbourg
PSG see out the win in a good response to their Champions League defeat to Real Madrid in midweek, opening up a 12-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 courtesy of a fourth consecutive league win.
And with that final whistle comes the end of our coverage of today's football - but fear not, we have in-depth updates from the FA Cup clash between
Huddersfield Town and Manchester United here. From me, though, it is goodbye for now!
