A late goal from Mario Mandzukic has given Bayern Munich a 1-0 lead over Bayer Leverkusen at half time in their Bundesliga match this evening.
The home side looked to make a quick start, with Mario Gotze having a couple of shots blocked inside the opening two minutes, while Toni Kroos and Bastian Schweinsteiger also had early attempts.
Bayern's first effort on target came from Arjen Robben, but his eighth-minute strike from the edge of the box was well saved by Bernd Leno.
Son Heung-Min tried to turn in a through-ball from Stefan Kiessling for the visitors, but he pulled his shot to the left of the target.
Mandzukic attempted to head the ball in from a Rafinha cross as the hosts continued to press for the opening goal, but he could not beat the keeper.
Kiessling continued to pose Leverkusen's main threat, forcing a good save from Manuel Neuer with a well-timed header.
The hosts finally managed to edge ahead just before the half-time whistle when Mandzukic headed in from a Schweinsteiger cross.
