Wolfsburg hosted Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich on Friday evening, looking to end the visitors' run of 12 unbeaten games.

Despite a bright start for the hosts, Bayern started to exert themselves on the game and went ahead through Mario Mandzukic's overhead kick.

In the second half Bayern remained patient and eventually wrapped up the points through Arjen Robben's stoppage-time second.

Was the result fair?

Yes, because Wolfsburg barely threatened Manuel Neuer's goal all game long. Bayern were not at their thrilling best, but nor did they need to be. By remaining patient and picking off their hosts when they were able, this was a very comfortable win indeed.

Wolfsburg's performance

They promised much in the opening 20 or so minutes, but this failed to manifest in all areas of the pitch. Neuer had only a few crosses to gather and one comfortable save from a Diego free kick, the rest of the time Wolfsburg were completely unable to break down the wall of red in front of them.

Bayern's performance

Not classic, but they did more than enough. They did not play defensively, as such, but defended from the front and made themselves effectively impossible to break down. At the other end they were able to turn defence into attack quickly and scored the goals at good times in the game. The rest of the match they made sure it was played at a slow pace.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Thomas Muller: There were no real standout performers, but Muller looked the most lively bursting forward from midfield. He should have scored himself early on and played the superb ball over the top for Arjen Robben to score the late second.

Biggest gaffe

Although it didn't lead to a goal, this goes to Christian Trasch for overhitting a backpass to Alexander Madlung that nearly let Mandzukic in. Otherwise there were few errors.

Referee performance

Felix Zwayer was far too happy to hand out yellow cards. He started fairly early on, which set a precedent that he had to follow. In the end he dished out eight bookings in a game that was far from dirty.

Wolfsburg: Tonight's hosts are back in league action next weekend with a trip to Mainz.

Bayern: The league leaders turn to the Champions League next as they travel to London to face Arsenal in the first leg of the last-16 tie.
