Jerome Boateng has backed Germany's young players to step up in the absence of former Philipp Lahm when the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign begins in September.
Lahm announced his retirement from international football shortly after leading Germany to success at the World Cup, and Boateng believes that now is the time for the next generation to display their ability as they look to replace his club teammate.
"He's a great player and captain who will be missed," the Bayern Munich defender told Kicker. "Luckily, there are many good, young players.
"Together, we must try to replace Philipp's great quality."
Germany face Argentina in a friendly on September 3 before beginning their bid to reach Euro 2016 against Scotland four days later.
