Pep Guardiola has insisted that Bayern Munich did not play "badly" during their DFL-Supercup defeat to Wolfsburg.
The Bundesliga champions lost to the DFB-Pokal cup holders in a penalty shootout after Nicklas Bendtner equalised late on at the Volkswagen Arena.
At his post-match press conference, the manager said: "It's a pity because we just had to defend for about two or three [more] minutes. We haven't played badly.
"It's not easy to play against such a great team, a team that did very well last season and will play in the Champions League this season.
"All of my players battled away and covered lots of ground. We did everything we could to win the match, but congratulations to Wolfsburg, who also did very well."
Bayern, who begin the defence of the German title against Hamburg on August 14, have lost the match for the last three years.
