Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has insisted that Chelsea's negative approach to last night's UEFA Super Cup made it difficult for his side, but believes the Bavarians thoroughly deserved their victory.
Pep Guardiola's side needed an equaliser from Javi Martinez in the final moment of extra time to force penalties against the Blues, eventually triumphing 5-4 in a dramatic shootout.
Robben declared that he always enjoys battling against his former club despite the Blues proving tricky opponents.
He told NOS: "These are always great games to play. It was fierce, particularly in the duels.
"Chelsea are a very defence-minded team and it's difficult to play football. That's their style of play and their quality.
"In extra-time, we had so many opportunities, but they didn't go in. Every trophy is super and we thoroughly deserved this one."
The Dutchman spent three seasons at Stamford Bridge but had his spell marred by injury, making 67 appearances in the Premier League before leaving for Real Madrid in 2007.
