Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has insisted that he did not start last weekend's clash with Bayer Leverkusen because he was carrying a muscle injury.
Robben has been a consistent feature for Bayern under Pep Guardiola, maintaining his strong from of last season in an advanced wide role.
The Dutch international was surprisingly left out of Bayern's starting XI for the 1-1 draw at Leverkusen, but has now revealed that it was due to complaining of tight muscles in training the day before.
He told TZ: "Of course I would have liked to have come on earlier.
"But I also had slight muscular discomfort during the final training session. That was also the reason why the coach put me on the bench."
Bayern dropped points for only the second time this season at the BayArena, with Robben unable to find a late winner in a 19-minute cameo from the bench.
