Johnnie Jackson's equaliser denied Eric Black a half-time lead in his first match as Blackburn Rovers caretaker boss as they entered the break level with Charlton Athletic at the Valley.
Black temporarily replaced Steve Kean at the Ewood Park helm after the Scot resigned from his post on Friday evening.
After Charlton went close through Salim Kerkar, Black saw his side go ahead courtesy of a powerful Dickson Etuhu strike from 10 yards.
The hosts were awarded a penalty ten minutes later when Michael Morrison was fouled by Scott Dann.
Former England international Paul Robinson saved Jackson's spot kick, but the Addicks captain reacted quickly to convert the rebound and level the scores.
Chris Powell's outfit nearly took an advantage into the break when a long throw fell to Danny Green, but the midfielder rattled the post with his effort.
