Blackburn Rovers have confirmed reports that they have sacked Michael Appleton after just 67 days in charge at Ewood Park.
Speculation surfaced within the last hour that Appleton had been relieved of his duties by the Rao family, although there had been no official word from the club.
However, a short message on the club's official website moments ago has revealed that the 37-year-old, along with his coaching staff, is no longer at the helm of the Championship outfit.
"Blackburn Rovers FC can confirm that Michael Appleton has been relieved of his duties as manager along with assistant manager Ashley Westwood, first-team coach Darren Moore and head of senior recruitment Luke Dowling," read the statement.
Appleton has previously managed Portsmouth and Blackpool this season.
