Blackburn move eight points clear of third-placed Shrewsbury Town in League One thanks to a 3-1 win over Peterborough United at Ewood Park on Thursday night.

Blackburn Rovers have moved eight points clear of third-placed Shrewsbury Town in League One thanks to a 3-1 win over Peterborough United.

An exciting, evenly-contested first half culminated in Posh taking the lead against second-placed Rovers through an own goal.

A corner kick from George Cooper dipped into the heart of the six-yard box, Charlie Mulgrew accidentally glancing a header into his own net.

Peterborough then came close to adding a second before the break when Danny Lloyd nearly made the most of hesitation from Mulgrew and goalkeeper David Raya to poke the ball goalwards, but Darragh Lenihan was able to clear off the line.

Tony Mowbray's charges regrouped after the restart and drew level on 54 minutes through Bradley Dack, who thumped a header past goalkeeper Conor O'Malley from Derrick Williams's cross.

Danny Graham then put Blackburn ahead seven minutes from time, heading home on the rebound after Adam Armstrong's delivery at the back post was rifled against the crossbar by Dack.

The hosts made sure of all three points in injury time as Graham won the ball back and played Dack through on goal, the League One Player of the Season showing composure to slot past O'Malley.
