Crystal Palace succumb to a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Bristol City in Tuesday night's EFL Cup encounter at Ashton Gate.

Crystal Palace have been knocked out of the EFL Cup due to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Bristol City in Tuesday night's fourth-round encounter at Ashton Gate.

The visitors were quickest out of the starting blocks, with Lee Chung-yong's ferocious effort on six minutes cannoning off the bar.

On 21 minutes, Palace were ahead as Ruben Loftus-Cheek slipped the ball into the path of Bakary Sako, who duly rifled beyond City keeper Luke Steele.

The Eagles could have been out of sight but the Robins managed to draw level in the 34th minute.

Patrick van Aanholt was at fault as he first miskicked the ball then headed into the path of Matty Taylor, who made no mistake in burying the ball into the net.

From then on Palace's defence collapsed as Hordur Magnusson's throw-in into the area caused havoc among the away backline and the ball kindly dropped for Milan Djuric to blast home.

City extended their lead with a third on the hour mark, Joe Bryan unleashing a left-footed drive from the edge of the area which rattled into the roof of the net.

Roy Hodgson's side were guilty of more poor defending on 66 minutes, as Jairo Riedewald sliced an attempted clearance and Callum O'Dowda drilled in a left-footed finish from the edge of the box to cap off a great performance for the Robins and a dismal one for the Eagles.
