St Johnstone boss Derek McInnes has been given permission to hold talks with Bristol City over the vacant manager's position at Ashton Gate.
The Championship side are also keen to discuss the role with Mark Robins after Keith Millen's dismissal last month.
While Robins is currently out of work, McInnes has 18 months to run on his contract with the SPL side.
"Derek is one of the people we would like to speak to about the job," chairman Colin Sexstone told the Bristol Evening Post.
"He is a strong contender and we have heard good things about him, hence the reason we have requested permission from St Johnstone to interview him about the role."
Caretaker manager Steve Wigley will take charge of City's match against Peterborough United tomorrow, and their clash with Crystal Palace on Tuesday.
