Oliver Banks scored late in the first half to give League Two leaders Chesterfield a 2-1 advantage over Bristol Rovers at the break.
Sam Morsy's first goal for Chesterfield fired the Spireites in front on five minutes. The former Port Vale midfielder slotted home from 10 yards following a neat pass from Eoin Doyle.
Chesterfield's lead lasted just over 30 minutes before Lee Brown equalised by netting his first goal of the season, beating goalkeeper Tommy Lee with a brilliant curling effort from just inside the penalty area.
However, hosts Chesterfield were back ahead on 44 minutes when Gary Roberts's low cross from the left was cleverly tucked away by Banks.
