Andre Gray has given Burnley a 1-0 half-time lead over Rotherham United at the New York Stadium.
It was an impressive start from Sean Dyche's side, who needed less than nine minutes to break the deadlock as George Boyd reacted to a loose ball to play through Gray and the striker capitalised to beat the onrushing Lee Camp.
Rotherham recovered well from the early setback to dominate possession for long spells, but Burnley rarely looked troubled at the back.
The visitors looked happy to soak up the pressure from Rotherham, and they threatened to double their lead against the run of play when Tendayi Darikwa's deflected effort forced Camp into an awkward save.
As Rotherham struggled to make an impact in the final third of the pitch, the Clarets came agonisingly close to a second before the break when Sam Vokes rattled the crossbar with a long-range strike.
The hosts finally forced Tom Heaton into action before the break when Matt Derbyshire turned on the edge of the box before seeing his low strike pushed to safety.
