Craig Noone scored on the cusp of half time to give Cardiff City a 1-0 lead over AFC Wimbledon in their League Cup first-round tie at the Cardiff City Stadium this evening.
The home side enjoyed the majority of the early possession, but Aron Gunnarsson had a shot blocked before Eoin Doyle headed over from a Sammy Ameobi cross.
Gunnarsson was on the hunt again inside the opening 20 minutes as Cardiff continued to see the majority of the ball, but his volley from the edge of the box went just high of the crossbar.
The League Two side attempted to create some pressure down the other end when Will Nightingale crossed the ball in for Adebayo Akinfenwa, but the big striker could not reach it, while former Cardiff defender Jon Meades missed the target following a quick break soon after.
Cardiff made another charge down the other end later in the half as they continued to press for an opening goal, but Noone's corner was header over by Sean Morrison.
The Welsh side finally opened the scoring in stoppage time just before the interval after Doyle was fouled, leaving Noone to pick out the top corner with an accurate free kick.
