The former Manchester United striker emerged as the favourite to replace Malky Mackay as manager following the Scot's sacking last month.
According to Norwegian TV, owner Vincent Tan sent his private jet to pick up the Molde boss in order to continue the negotiations.
The Bluebirds face Arsenal at the Emirates this afternoon.
