Cardiff City could face a Premier League investigation after it was reported that owner Vincent Tan offered his players an illegal £3.7m bonus before Sunday's defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.
The league's rules state that every team must lodge their bonus schedule before the start of the season.
According to the Daily Mail, Tan did not offer the Cardiff squad a bonus to avoid relegation before the season started, as he was confident they would not be involved in a battle for top-flight survival.
It is reported the he told his players at the Hilton Hotel in Park Lane on Saturday evening that they would 'need to shoot more' to earn the bonus when the season ended.
A spokesman for Tan told the Daily Mail: "We didn't realise it was against regulations. Vincent Tan has now rescinded the offer."
Cardiff are currently 19th in the Premier League table and have lost their last three matches.
