An early Yoni Buyens penalty has given Charlton Athletic a 1-0 lead against Watford at half time at The Valley.
Hornets goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes was booked after he brought down Jordan Cousins inside the area and Buyens made no mistake from 12 yards on four minutes.
Johann Berg Gudmundsson, who had earlier been shown a yellow card, was brought off on the half-hour mark with an injury, with Lawrie Wilson replacing him.
The visitors were denied a good shout for a penalty when Troy Deeney appeared to have been brought down by Tal Ben Haim, but referee Robert Madley waved away protests from the Hornets.
