Chelsea are 1-0 up against Schalke at half time in their Champions League Group E clash at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen.
Fernando Torres broke the deadlock for the visitors as early as the fifth minute when he headed home from close range after meeting a Branislav Ivanovic flick-on from a corner.
Schalke's first real chance of the contest came in the 26th minute when Roman Neustadter set up Atsuto Uchida, but the full-back could only blaze his shot high and wide.
The German side had two good chances to restore parity five minutes from half time when Kevin-Prince Boateng tested Petr Cech with a long-range effort and Neustadter came close from the resulting corner.
