Emmanuel Adebayor: 'Referees killing the game'

Emmanuel Adebayor has accused Martin Atkinson of 'killing the game' after Chelsea's controversial win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor is adamant that referees are 'killing the game' after Juan Mata's controversial 'ghost goal' in their 5-1 FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea.

Chelsea were awarded a second goal when Mata's shot was judged to have crossed the line by referee Martin Atkinson even though replays show that Benoit Assou-Ekotto appeared to clear the ball.

"I think we have done well and [referee Martin Atkinson] has made a lot of mistakes and made a lot of wrong decisions," said Adebayor.

"We are all disappointed. But what do you want me to tell you? How many goals scored this season were disallowed that were onside? To be honest, I'm just tired of it and everyone is talking about goal-line technology.

"They have to make something happen because it's killing the league, it's killing the FA Cup, it's killing the game, it's killing everything."

The Togo forward also agreed with Harry Redknapp's preference of having a penalty and Petr Cech sent off rather than Gareth Bale's goal as the Blues goalkeeper brought down Adebayor.

"He caught me, he should have given a red card and penalty and to be honest, you have to blame [him] - he made a lot mistakes and a lot of wrong decisions," he added.

Chelsea will now face Liverpool in the final of the competition after the Reds beat Everton 2-1 on Saturday.
