Rafael Benitez: 'Chelsea are getting stronger'

Rafael Benitez says that Chelsea are getting "a little bit stronger" with every passing game following their 5-1 win at Leeds United on Wednesday.

Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez believes that his side are improving with every passing game.

The Blues bounced back from their FIFA Club World Cup final defeat to Corinthians at the weekend with a 5-1 away victory over Leeds United in the League Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday.

"I thought the performance was fantastic, not just the second half but the first half as well," BBC Sport quotes him as saying. "You can see that in every game the team is a little bit stronger.

"At half time I told the players to keep doing the same things - keep the ball, play a high tempo, press and when we are in possession pass the ball as quickly as possible.

"The Leeds keeper (Jamie Ashdown) did really well. And with the rain we had to adapt to the pitch. But it is just a matter of time and confidence and trying to play the game we wanted to play."

Chelsea will face Swansea City in the semi-finals of the competition.
