Graham Potter: 'Chelsea's draw at Liverpool a positive day'

:Headline: Graham Potter: 'Chelsea's draw at Liverpool a positive day':
Head coach Graham Potter describes Chelsea securing a goalless draw at Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday as "a positive day".

Graham Potter has acknowledged that Chelsea's goalless draw with Liverpool on Saturday was another step in the right direction.

Speculation has persisted that Potter is under pressure at Stamford Bridge, a consequence of one win and seven defeats being posted during a 10-game period.

However, Chelsea have responded by collecting four points from two Premier League games, following a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace last weekend with a stalemate at Anfield.

The visitors had an early goal disallowed after Kai Havertz was deemed to be marginally offside when converting a rebound with a Thiago Silva shot having ricocheted into his path.

Chelsea shook off that disappointment to match Liverpool for large periods, both sides squandering encouraging openings in the final third.

While a share of the spoils was fair, the sides failed to make significant inroads into what was a 10-point gap between themselves and the Champions League places.

Nevertheless, Potter suggested after the contest that he was focused on the positives taken from his side's performance, as well as posting back-to-back clean sheets for the first time since the middle of October.

Speaking to BT Sport, Potter said: "I thought the performance was good. Happy with the team, the energy, what we tried to do. At Anfield, it is always tough. It is a clean sheet and a point, we move forward.

"First half, we were decent, unlucky not to get the goal. It is what it is. They started the second half well, and we adjusted a couple of things and gained control, had a couple of chances. Overall, a positive day, apart from the fact we wanted three points."

New arrival Mykhaylo Mudryk was introduced shortly after the restart and gave Chelsea supporters a glimpse of his qualities with a lively display down the left flank.

Commenting on the outing, Potter indicated that he would ease the Ukraine international into action with the winger going a prolonged period without competitive action.

The Englishman added: "He's not played football for a while, he's been on a mid-season break. We had to manage his minutes, but you can see his quality."

As a result of the club's early exit from the FA Cup, Chelsea do not play again until the West London derby with Fulham on February 3.
