Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua have appointed Frenchman Jean Tigana as the club's new coach.
The 56-year-old, who has previously managed Fulham, Lyon and Monaco, has revealed that he received an offer from English club before taking over at Shanghai.
"I could have gone to England or Turkey," Tigana said during a press conference.
"I am privileged to be here. I found a new challenge here. This is not a financial choice. It is a sporting and life decision."
Tigana will link up with fellow countryman Nicolas Anelka, who will join the club from Chelsea in January.
