Colombia centre-back Yerry Mina says that "it was a tremendous blow" to lose to England on penalties in the last-16 stage of the 2018 World Cup.

Colombia centre-back Yerry Mina has conceded that "it was a tremendous blow" to lose to England on penalties in the last-16 stage of the 2018 World Cup.

Mina's late header cancelled out a Harry Kane penalty to take the knockout-round fixture into extra time and eventually a penalty shootout, which England won 4-3 to advance into the quarter-finals.

The Barcelona defender has insisted that his country "did not deserve to lose" because they 'did more than England' over the 120 minutes of football in Moscow.

"It was a tremendous blow," Mina told Mundo Deportivo. "We did not deserve to lose, we have done more than England and the pity is that we could not decide [the game] before the penalties.

"It is a blow for the whole group. I thank God because he allowed me to score another important goal for my country, and I really thought that in the extra time we could win."

Mina joined Barcelona from Palmeiras in January 2018, and made six appearances for the Spanish giants in the second half of last season.
