Coventry City scored twice in the second half to knock Plymouth Argyle out in the Southern section quarter-finals in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy this evening.
Ryan Haynes and John Fleck both tried to set up Gary Madine early on, but the striker could not get into space to test Luke McCormick.
Ryan Allsopp came under pressure down the other end as Reuben Reid attempted to give the visitors the advantage, but the Coventry keeper tipped it away.
Madine had another opportunity just before the break for the home side, but his volley from a tight angle went just wide.
Madine continued to look lively though, and finally made the breakthrough just after the hour mark when he smashed the ball in from a James O'Brien corner.
Allsopp had to remain alert as Plymouth tried to get back on level terms shortly after, but the keeper reacted quickly to deny Deane Smalley at the near post.
Coventry put the win beyond doubt with five minutes to go though as Frank Nouble broke from the halfway line, rounding three defenders before blasting the ball in.
