Dinko Jelicic's side are now one point clear at the top of Group A going into the final round of fixtures.
The opening goal came in the 11th minute as Stipe Perica rose highest to head in before Ante Rebic made it 2-0 on 75 minutes.
Louis Fenton pulled a goal back for New Zealand from the penalty spot six minutes from time, but they failed to find an equaliser.
