Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Bundesliga clash between Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Monchengladbach, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Eintracht Frankfurt take on Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga on Tuesday with both sides looking to return to winning ways after failing to pick up three points at the weekend.

Gladbach have not lost in the last four meetings between these two sides, most recently winning 3-1 in May in this fixture last season.

Match preview

After losing 2-1 at Wolfsburg on Friday night, Frankfurt have now failed to win any of their last eight matches, a run which now stretches more than two months.

In fairness, Adi Hutter's side had drawn five matches in a row heading to Wolfsburg, but after a fast start to the season, his side's winless run has seen them gradually slide down the table.

Bas Dost's second-half penalty looked to be ending Frankfurt's barren run, but the game was turned on its head by a Wout Weghorst brace in the last 15 minutes of the match to earn a valuable three points for the hosts.

Frankfurt are clinging onto a top-half place by the skin of their teeth, with three sides below them all only a point behind; if their winless run does not come to an end against Gladbach on Tuesday, then the chances are Hutter's side will not remain there by the end of matchday 12.

Although spirits at Gladbach are almost certainly higher after qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time in the club's history despite losing to Real Madrid last Wednesday, Marco Rose's domestic form has also dipped in recent weeks.

Marco Rose's side's 4-1 win against the hapless Schalke 04 has been their only win in their last five matches, with another home draw at the weekend halting their progress up the table.

Hertha Berlin became the fourth side this season to deny Gladbach victory on their home patch on Saturday, with Matteo Guendouzi's early strike in the second half giving Rose's side a mountain to climb. On the upside, Breel Embolo appears to be hitting his stride after missing several easy chances earlier in the campaign, with the Swiss striker scoring for a second match in a row to snatch a point for his side in a 1-1 draw.

However, Gladbach now sit four points outside of the Champions League qualification places, with arguably their main rivals for a top-four spot in Bayer Leverkusen able to move eight points clear of them with a win on Sunday. Rose's side must start picking up more victories if they wish to compete in Europe's elite competition once again next campaign.

Team News

Frankfurt were dealt a major blow when top goalscorer Andre Silva was ruled out of the trip to Wolfsburg with muscular problems, with the Portugal striker likely to miss the visit of Gladbach.

Hutter remains without Felix Irorere and former Newcastle United loanee Jetro Willems due to a lack of match fitness, with Ragnar Ache's hamstring injury keeping the defender on the sidelines.

Gladbach, meanwhile, suffered their own significant absentee in the shape of goalkeeper Yann Sommer, with the Swiss stopper suffering an adductor issue and unable to face Hertha. He is unlikely to make the trip to Frankfurt.

Jonas Hofmann continues to recover from a torn muscle, with Ramy Bensebaini unavailable due to coronavirus.

Eintracht Frankfurt possible starting lineup:
Trapp; Abraham, Hinteregger, N'Dicka; Durm, Rode, Ilsanker, Sow, Kostic; Dost, Kamada

Borussia Monchengladbach possible starting lineup:
Slippel; Lainer, Ginter, Elvedi, Wendt; Kramer, Zakaria; Plea, Stindl, Thuram; Embolo

We say: Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1 Borussia Monchengladbach

Both teams are missing some key players, and with fatigue likely to play a part in a condensed schedule, neither manager is likely to be too disappointed with a point.

Expect Gladbach to take the game to the hosts, though, with their attacking options outnumbering Frankfurt's.
