Empoli moved seven points clear of the Serie A relegation zone by easing to a 3-0 victory over Chievo this afternoon.
The hosts started the game brightly and Riccardo Meggiorini came close early on when he was picked out by Valter Birsa, only to drag a shot wide of the far post.
Empoli continued to pose more of a threat and they opened the scoring midway through the first half when Daniele Rugani headed in from Mirko Valdifiori's cross.
Mario Rui threatened a second goal for the hosts with a free kick which he placed just wide of the target.
Within a minute of the second half, Empoli did manage to double their lead as Matias Vecino got to the byline and pulled the ball back for Massimo Maccarone to calmly slot into roof of the net.
The hosts were cruising and Maccarone doubled his tally for the afternoon with a precise low drive which found the bottom corner in the 67th minute.
That goal allowed Empoli to see the rest of the game out with relative ease, as they claimed back-to-back home wins in Serie A for the first time this season.
