Empoli have extended their unbeaten run in Serie A to eight games with a 3-1 win at home to Sassuolo.
Following a lively first half that saw chances fall for both sides, the hosts made the breakthrough one minute after the restart when Riccardo Saponara found the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
However, Sassuolo drew themselves level in fortuitous circumstances three minutes later as Daniele Rugani deflected a cross into his own net.
Despite seeing their lead cancelled out, Empoli continued to look more dangerous in attack and were rewarded with an hour played when Levan Mchedlidze tapped in Saponara's cross from close range.
The home side then made sure of the victory just one minute later through Saponara, who converted from inside the area after being played in by Daniele Croce.
