Sports Mole

After beating Austria in the Women's Euros 2022 opener, England Women will be looking to claim maximum points once again when they face Norway Women at the Amex Stadium.

Norway, meanwhile, are also looking to move onto six points after claiming a 4-1 victory over Northern Ireland on matchday one.

Match preview

England opened their campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory against Austria on Thursday in front of the largest crowd in Women's European Championship history.

Although Sarina Wiegman may have hoped for a more comprehensive victory, the England boss will be content to see her side begin the tournament with a win, which came courtesy of Beth Mead's first-half strike.

The result represented England's seventh consecutive victory, while it also extended their current unbeaten run to 15 games.

England will also be pleased that they continued their impressive defensive record, having kept five clean sheets in their previous five matches.

The Lionesses will be determined to continue their impressive run of form, but they will be aware that Monday's encounter will be tricky, with Norway representing their toughest opposition in the group.

Meanwhile, Norway will head into the meeting with England in a confident mood after sweeping aside Northern Ireland on Thursday.

Norway raced into a three-goal lead inside 31 minutes thanks to goals from Julie Blakstad, Frida Maanum and Caroline Graham Hansen.

Northern Ireland pulled a goal back four minutes into the second half, but Guro Reiten curtailed any chances of a comeback from their opponents when she found the net with a clinical free kick.

The result represented Norway's sixth consecutive victory, with Martin Sjogren's side scoring at least two goals in all of those six wins.

Norway will be looking to continue their goalscoring form on Monday, and they will also be aiming to replicate the 2-1 victory that they picked up against England in the most recent meeting between the two sides in September 2019.

Team News

After picking up a victory in the tournament opener, England could name an unchanged side for Monday's contest.

Leah Williamson has previously featured in midfield for her national side, but if Wiegman does not make any alterations to the lineup, the England captain will continue in central defence alongside Millie Bright.

Ellen White was withdrawn just after the hour mark against Austria, but the Manchester City striker will retain her place in the forward line on Monday.

As for Norway, they could also name an unchanged starting XI after picking up a comprehensive victory over Northern Ireland.

Blakstad managed to grab a goal in the opening game, but the 20-year-old will be focused on keeping England at bay when she features in the backline alongside Anja Sonstevold, Maren Mjelde and Maria Thorisdottir.

After failing to find the net on Thursday, Ada Hegerberg will be looking to open her account for the tournament when she leads the line against England.

England Women possible starting lineup:
Earps; Bronze, Bright, Williamson, Daly; Stanway, Walsh; Mead, Kirby, Hemp; White

Norway Women possible starting lineup:
Pettersen; Sonstevold, Mjelde, Thorisdottir, Blakstad; Maanum, Engen; Eikeland, Hansen, Reiten; Hegeberg

We say: England Women 2-1 Norway Women

The last four meetings between the two sides have seen both teams collect two wins apiece, and although we expect a close-fought contest, we think with England being spurred on by home support that they will edge out Norway to move to the top of the group.
