England captain Steven Gerrard has claimed that the players executed manager Roy Hodgson's gameplan perfectly in Tuesday night's 0-0 draw with Ukraine.
The Three Lions ground out the stalemate to stay top of Group H in their World Cup qualifying campaign, and Gerrard felt that the team did enough to be pleased after the final whistle.
"We'd have loved to have won the game, of course we would have," Gerrard told Sky Sports News.
"We did exactly what the manager asked of us. He wanted us to keep it tight and we expected their good start. Their wide players (Yehven Konoplyanka and Andriy Yarmolenko) are good players.
"It's always the case away from home, the home side will put you under pressure and the back four were terrific tonight."
Hodgson declared the result a fair one after the game.
