Former England captain Alan Shearer has claimed that the current team must show progress during this summer's World Cup.
Three Lions manager Roy Hodgson announced his 23-man squad for the tournament on Monday, with 10 of those players under the age of 25.
While admitting that England are not expected to win the tournament, Shearer hopes that they can make an impact in Brazil.
"If they give their best, and the best is not good enough but they gave everything, I think that is all England fans want to see," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
"There is not a huge amount of expectation for England to go there and win it, but there is expectation for England to go there and show progression."
England get their World Cup campaign underway on June 14 when they face Italy in Manaus.
