Everton forward Wayne Rooney: 'Late goal difficult to take'

Everton forward Wayne Rooney admits that conceding a late goal in the 2-2 draw to Apollon Limassol is "hard to take".

Everton forward Wayne Rooney has claimed that the Toffees were unfortunate not to record three points from their Europa League fixture with Apollon Limassol.

The Merseyside outfit held a 2-1 lead and a man advantage heading into the final four minutes, but a late header from Hector Yuste gave the visitors a surprise point at Goodison Park.

The result leaves Everton at the bottom of the group, but Rooney - who scored his side's opener - is trying to take confidence from a third game without defeat in all competitions.

The 31-year-old is quoted by the club's official website as saying: "Conceding a late goal is hard to take. We deserved to win the game and had chances.

"We were the better team but the goals were sloppy from our point of view. It's a point, we have to move on but it should be three.

"We just need that goal to see the game off but we're still finding our feet. It's been a difficult start to the season in terms of fixtures. It's two wins and a draw in the last three games. We have to try to keep progressing and hopefully we'll do it."

Everton now face back-to-back fixtures with Lyon, with the home game taking place on Thursday, October 19.
