Everton looking to avoid unwanted club-record winless run against Bournemouth

Everton will look to avoid equalling an unwanted club-record Premier League winless run when they travel to Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Toffees are 11 games without a win, dating back to their 2-0 win at Burnley on December 16, and sit just four points above the relegation zone heading into the weekend.

That saw Sean Dyche's clinch a fourth straight win in the Premier League, instantly making back the 10 points that they initially had deducted by the Premier League.

However, the 11 games that followed have seen Everton yield just five points, but they were given an additional four back after appealing against their PSR punishment.

That means that Everton are on the longest current winless run in the Premier League, and a failure to win at Bournemouth would see them equal their record of 12 games without victory, which was set between August and October 1994.

Scoring woes holding Everton back?

It is no secret that Everton have struggled for many years at putting the ball in the back of the net, and only Sheffield United have a worse record this season.

The Toffees have scored just one goal in their past five league away games, despite having 65 shots, seven big chances and an xG of 4.8.

That does not bode well for their next away encounter this weekend, as they are still yet to win a Premier League game at the Vitality in six attempts.

In their most recent away league fixture, they managed 23 shots against Manchester United - their most without a goal in one since 2010 at Aston Villa.

Two trips to the South coast to face the Cherries last season both ended miserably for Everton too, as they were beaten 4-1 in the EFL Cup, and 3-0 in the Premier League, all within the space of four days.

Will Everton's defensive backbone be crucial to success?

If Everton are to claim a long-awaited victory, it is likely that they will need to keep Dominic Solanke quiet up front for Bournemouth.

Solanke has scored 15 Premier League goals this season, and is now just one short of equalling the best-ever season for a Bournemouth player in the top flight.

Former Everton striker Josh King holds that record after netting 16 in the 2016-17 season, and Dyche will hope that his team are not the ones against whom Solanke matches that tally.

Despite getting no game time for England during the international break, Jarrad Branthwaite will return to partner James Tarkowski in an Everton defence that has conceded just 39 goals this season - the fourth-best record in the division. body check tags ::
