Everton lose 3-2 to Valencia at Goodison Park as their difficult pre-season campaign ended on a low.

Everton will head into the new Premier League campaign on the back of four successive defeats, having lost 3-2 at home to Valencia in their final pre-season friendly.

The Toffees twice recovered from a goal down at Goodison Park, only for Daniel Wass to net a winner 16 minutes from time for the Spanish visitors.

Marco Silva's first home match in charge of the Merseyside outfit got off to the worst possible start, as Rodrigo tapped in from close range to open the scoring for Valencia.

Everton responded well to the early setback, with Richarlison latching on to Idrissa Gueye's pass and getting a shot on target for Neto to keep out at full stretch.

Eight minutes later the hosts were all square thanks to a drilled finish into the bottom corner from Cenk Tosun following some good work by Theo Walcott.

Rodrigo headed Valencia - fourth-place finishers in La Liga last season - back into the lead with just over a quarter of the game played, though, in what was proving to be a lively friendly.

The goals kept on coming, with Michael Keane getting on the end of Gylfi Sigurdsson's corner to once again level up the contest.

Lucas Digne was brought on for the start of the second half, three days after joining the Toffees from Barcelona, and the full-back's low delivery led to the game's next chance on the hour mark.

Nobody in blue could get on the end of the ball, however, and that would prove to be pretty much the best of Everton's remaining opportunities.

Los Che would leave Merseyside with the win - just their second in five summer friendlies - courtesy of half-time substitute Wass's long-range strike 15 minutes from the end.

EVERTON: Stekelenburg, Baines (Digne 46'), Keane, Jagielka, Coleman, Sigurdsson (Dowell 87'), Gueye (Calvert-Lewin 74'), Schneiderlin, Richarlison (Lookman 81'), Tosun (Davies 74'), Walcott (Ramirez 61')

VALENCIA: Neto (Domenech 46'), Piccini (Montoya 70'), Diakhaby (Vezo 69'), Garay (Murillo 78'), Gaya (Lato 69'), Soler (Jordi 85'), Parejo, Kondogbia (Lee 78'), Ferran Torres (Wass 46'), Mina (Medran 85'), Rodrigo (Zaza 68')
