No need to sell to fund Everton arrivals

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright says that Roberto Martinez need not part with any of the Toffees' star players for transfer funds this summer.

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has promised new manager Roberto Martinez that he does not have to sell key players in order to fund new arrivals this summer.

Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini have been generating interest from the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal recently, but the Toffees are looking to keep hold of their star men.

However, the Belgian's £24m release fee being triggered would take the matter out of the club's hands, but Kenwright added that the Spaniard will get any money that comes in from player sales.

"He talked about a couple of new signings and he talked about the squad and asked 'Do they need to go?'," Kenwright told reporters. "I said 'No, they absolutely do not have to go', [although Fellaini] has a get-out which everyone knows.

"I said to [Roberto] 'I can't sit here and give you a line because we all know money is everything in football - this is the money we've got and I will try to improve on it'.

"We are desperate to find new owners and new investment but he will get support from everyone at the club and all the financial support - and by that I mean if he sells someone he won't get 80% of that he'll get 100%. Plus he has a certain amount of money for the transfer window which David [Moyes] was going to have."

Martinez was appointed on Wednesday.
