Emmanuel Emenike scored twice as Fenerbahce recorded a 2-1 win over AS Monaco in the first leg of their third qualifying round clash in the Champions League.
The home side had a golden chance to take the lead inside two minutes when Salih Ucan found space inside the Monaco box, but the midfielder missed the post from close range.
Fenerbahce were ahead six minutes before the break, however, when Simon Kjaer delivered a cross in to Emenike, who fired home to send the Turkish outfit into a 1-0 lead in the tie.
Monaco answered straight back though as Radamel Falcao, back at the club following disappointing loan spells with Manchester United and Chelsea, poked past Mahmut Taskiran after a mix-up inside the box.
Monaco came close to a second in the 49th minute when Nabil Dirar struck one from long range, but the midfielder's effort hit the post and Fenerbahce had their second just past the hour when Emenike collected a Gregory van der Wiel pass before finishing past Morgan de Sanctis.
Jemerson had the ball in the back of the net for Monaco in the 68th minute, but the defender's effort was ruled out for offside as Fenerbahce secured a narrow advantage ahead of the return match at Stade Louis II on August 3.
