Fiorentina have taken a 2-1 lead into the halfway stage of their opening Serie A match against Catania this evening.
The hosts took the lead after just 15 minutes when Alberto Aquilani won possession in midfield before playing the ball out wide to Juan Cuadrado, whose cross was controlled and then neatly finished by Giuseppe Rossi.
Catania were level less than 10 minutes later, however, when Pablo Barrientos reacted quickest to Sebastian Leto's cross to steer it home after David Pizarro had missed a chance to clear the danger.
Pizarro made up for his error shortly afterwards, however, restoring parity with a powerful strike into the top corner with Mario Andujar out of position.
It should have been 3-1 just before the break when Rossi teed up Mario Gomez, but the Germany international fired his shot against the foot of the post on his home debut.
