Fiorentina have confirmed that striker Mario Gomez will be out of action for around six weeks after suffering a knee ligament injury.
The German international picked up the problem during La Viola's 1-1 draw with Cagliari in Serie A on Sunday.
Medical scans have revealed the magnitude of the damage, which has caused a partial lesion of the collateral medial ligament, and Gomez will now wear a brace for two weeks before starting his rehabilitation.
Gomez, who joined the Italian outfit from Bayern Munich for £16m during the summer, is unlikely to return before the end of October.
Gomez scored twice in his opening free matches for Fiorentina in Serie A.
